Happy World Vegan Day from Coinadrink, the vending company.

The 1st of November marks National Vegan Day and the start of vegan month. Did you know that around 2.7% of the world’s population is currently vegan? This lifestyle is rapidly growing more and more popular by the day and Coinadrink Limited, the vending company, can offer vegan products in our snack vending machines and fresh food vending machines, as well as our Micro Market’s through Express Refreshments.

Keep reading to find out more…

The history of Veganism.

Before we get into World Vegan Day, let’s check out the history

People first began avoiding animal products over 2000 years ago, almost as early as 500BCE. This was around the same time that Pythagoras promoted benevolence among species as well as a vegetarian diet. Similarly, Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) also spoke about the vegetarian diet with his supporters at this time.

In November 1944, Donald Watson called a meeting with five other non-dairy vegetarians, to discuss these lifestyles. Even though many held similar views, these six creators were the first to actively create a new movement, despite opposition. The group’s new name was ‘vegan’, a word that encompassed the first three and last two letters of ‘vegetarian’.

Although the vegan diet was defined in 1944, it was as late as 1949 before Leslie J Cross pointed out that society lacked a definition of veganism, which is why something was done about it!

For the record, someone who considers themselves to be a vegan does not eat any food derived from animals and does not use other animal products.

What is World Vegan Day?

Marking the 1st of November, World Vegan Month is celebrated globally to recognise how much has been achieved, as a reflection on vegan successes and an opportunity to highlight how beneficial and accessible the vegan lifestyle is nowadays.

This event can be celebrated in various ways, whether it be committing to a collective challenge or task, sharing vegan recipes or taking a pledge. This helps to promote and raise awareness about the importance of veganism, and you can get involved too. If the world was to go vegan, it is believed around 8 million human lives could be saved by 2050! It’s certainly food for thought.

Statistics show your workforce want a hot drinks vending machine – so take advantage of Coinadrink’s special offer!

As the clocks go back and the weather takes another turn for the worse, life’s little pleasures are more important than ever. Especially in the workplace, where as a MD, manager or team leader it is your responsibility to keep staff morale high. This article will explain the importance of providing high quality hot drinks on site. It may seem something minor, but it can make a big difference to the productivity of your team. And with Coinadrink’s operated vending offer, there’s never been a better time to take advantage of our services.

Think about your hot drinks’ consumption. We’re guessing it’s pretty high, or at the very least is a daily occurrence. Over 90 million cups of coffee are consumed in the UK every single day, whilst over 75% of Brits drink at least one cup of tea every day, too. We’re certainly talking high numbers here.

And with over 60% of our day being spent in the workplace, it’s only natural to see our hot drinks consumption carry over to this environment.

Now think about your workplace. How do you enjoy your hot drinks? A lot of companies may still rely on the kettle, whilst other companies may force their staff off site to the coffee shop or local convenience store. But it’s those that have a hot drinks vending machine installed that are doing it the right way!

And we have more stats to explain why.

Your staff need a hot drinks vending machine.

Let’s first examine the importance of hot drinks at work. The last few years have seen the UK develop a genuine coffee culture, one that sees 81% of people visit the coffee shop weekly.

And we don’t even need to “big up” our nations’ love of tea, with it still remaining the UK’s most popular beverage!

Chances are, your staff crave higher quality hot drinks, so why not provide? At first thought it may seem like it’s impossible to replicate the quality of the coffee shop at work, but with a hot drinks vending machine you really can. Much of our equipment can dispense fresh bean coffee and fresh leaf tea in less than 30 seconds, something the kettle cannot do.

Having a hot drinks vending machine installed in your workplace will keep your staff on site for their break times, something that’s even more important as we approach the colder winter climate.

It’s not just about ensuring your employees stick to their allotted break times, either. It can also strengthen relationships with their colleagues. Four in five people who take coffee breaks with their work mates reported that it helped them to develop a stronger working relationship.

And three quarters of workers agree that having access to high quality coffee at work shows their employer cares for their wellbeing. This translates to a more productive workforce, with 90% of workers saying high quality coffee motivates them to do their best at work.

So, the results speak for themselves. At the moment, chances are you’re either forcing your staff off site for their coffee and tea fix or providing sub-par facilities on site.

October is Fairtrade month! Here is how Coinadrink Limited show our support.

The importance of Fairtrade is emphasised during October when the entirety of the month is dedicated to raising awareness. Most people will understand that Fairtrade is something that should be supported, but do we always know why? This article will detail exactly what it is that Fairtrade does, as well as highlight how Coinadrink Limited supports the movement.

The background to Fairtrade.

The Fairtrade Foundation dates back to 1946, when Ten Thousand Villages, a Fairtrade organisation today, began buying needlework from Puerto Rico in 1946. The first official ‘Fairtrade’ shop which sold these products opened its doors in 1958 in the USA. Soon enough, the organisation began to make its way to UK shores. Oxfam began selling crafts made by Chinese refugees and by 1964, the Fairtrade Foundation was officially formed. And poorer countries have been benefitting ever since.

What does the Fairtrade Foundation support?

As stated on their website, buying Fairtrade and supporting the foundation ensures you have the power to change the world every day. With simple changes to your purchasing habits, you can make sure farmers get a better deal on their products. Such products include coffee beans, fruit, chocolate and clothing.

But that’s not all. The Fairtrade Foundation also fights to provide better working conditions and local sustainability, largely helped by forcing companies to pay a fair price. Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

In short, then, supporting the Fairtrade organisation is a simple way to give coffee farmers the recognition that their hard work deserves.

The foundation works hard throughout 74 countries over four continents, including Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, India and Sri Lanka. It aims to boost awareness by holding events and campaigns. If a product is Fairtrade registered, it will carry the specialist mark.

Facts and Figures.

Here’s a little snippet of some interesting information regarding the Fairtrade Foundation.

  • There are more than 1.65 million farmers and workers in Fairtrade certified producer organisations.
  • There are 1,226 certified producer organisations across 74 countries.
  • 26% of all farmers and workers are women.
  • Small producer organisations spent 31% of their Fairtrade premium on investments supporting productivity or quality improvements.
  • On plantations, workers spent 26% of their premium on education.

How do we support Fairtrade?

We often enjoy key amenities such as our morning coffee yet rarely give a thought for where they derived from.

When you enjoy a delicious hot beverage from one of our coffee or vending machines, you can be assured that the coffee beans used have travelled from a sustainable background that recognises the hard work of the coffee farmer.

You can read more about our support for the Fairtrade Foundation here.

Don’t settle for a vending supplier that doesn’t go the extra mile to support coffee farmers in some of the poorest parts of the world. Trust Coinadrink Limited.

Keep your staff on site during the colder months with a vending machine or Micro Market!

Whilst it’s important for your team to take regular breaks, keeping them on site for their downtime now just got even more important. With the unpredictable autumnal weather well and truly upon us, you should be looking to review your facilities on site. Through Coinadrink and our branch division Express Refreshments, responsible for the UK’s first ever Micro Market in 2013, we take a look at why you should be looking to upgrade your refreshment facilities in your workplace and how we can help with our vending machine services.

What do your workforce actually want?

First of all, it’s probably a good idea to examine what your workforce actually wants and why refreshments on site are important. We’ll jump straight into it with some important statistics.

So, you see, whether it’s coffee or water, office workers are demanding high quality tea and coffee on their premises. And with 89% of workers at companies that support wellbeing initiatives saying they would recommend their company as a good place to work, it’s clear that refreshments are an effective tool to shine a positive light on the culture of your business.

Why you should keep your staff on site for their refreshments.

We have always maintained that a vending machine, coffee machine or a Micro Market is a great solution to the wellbeing issues that plague workers up and down the country. A key reason why is because they keep staff on site, which carries a lot of individual benefits.

  • Staff are more likely to keep to their allocated break time.
  • Staff will enjoy a more meaningful break time, one that doesn’t involve rushing around and queuing in coffee shops or fast food outlets.
  • Staff will be able to relax with their colleagues, strengthening relationships and engagement.
  • Staff won’t have to brave the harsh elements during the colder, wetter weather.

Encouraging your team to stay on your premises during break time improves relationships, boosts morale and increases productivity. Especially as we enter the colder seasons!

How a vending machine can improve workplace wellbeing.

Why a vending machine is a great choice.

If you’ve recognised the need to keep staff on site for their refreshments, you may be looking at the best solutions. The kettle is the common choice, it would seem.

But the kettle is an archaic refreshment solution that should have been discarded from the workplace a long time ago. It’s slow, consumes a lot of energy and cannot capture the level of quality your workforce quite clearly requires.

And in the current unprecedented times, when everybody puts a greater emphasis on hygiene, using the kettle contains too many touch points to recommend it as a safe option.

A vending machine eliminates those touch points by having all ingredients stored within the machine. And with new Purezone technology, now available on a number of Coinadrink equipment, you can continue to use your vending machine with peace of mind. Or why not check out our range of contactless equipment?

Elsewhere, there are a number of additional benefits:

  • Cost-effective.
  • Convenient and easy to manage. We can even handle the maintenance and replenishment for you if required.
  • High quality beverages including fresh bean coffee and fresh leaf tea.
  • Healthier snacks, fresh food and cold drinks.
  • Stylish, innovative and technologically advanced.

Why your business needs a vending machine!

Or upgrade to a Micro Market.

Our range of vending machines can cater to a higher volume of staff, but what if you’re looking for a solution that’s specifically designed for larger workplaces? That’s where the Micro Market comes in.

Through Express Refreshments, we have more experience than any other UK company in Micro Market’s. To summarise, a Micro Market is a self-service convenience store that’s tailored to suit your workplace. A variety of quality refreshments are available in an open plan design that’s accessible 24 hours a day. This makes it perfect for larger sites in remote locations.

We mentioned above the importance of keeping staff on site for their break time and the Micro Market provides everything that’s needed.

Hot drinks, cold drinks, snacks and more are available here, and whilst products are pre-packaged to grab-and-go, we can also intertwine your market with your breakout area to encourage a more meaningful break time with your colleagues.

Unlike a canteen, which remains a popular choice amongst larger sites, a Micro Market can work for any type of business with any space available. And because it’s unmanned, it becomes most cost-effective and a lot more hygienic. Even payment is handled through an innovative, cashless terminal.

A Micro Market could be a great choice.

Ask about a vending machine or a Micro Market today.

Coinadrink has over 58 years’ experience in making vending work for all businesses. And Express Refreshments was developed on the back of our experience, identifying a gap in the market for larger workplaces.

Through our services, we can help increase wellbeing and improve productivity. And now we’re well and truly in the autumn season, there couldn’t be a better time to upgrade your facilities on site.

We hope this article has been of benefit to you. To enquire about our services, or for further information, contact us on 01922 640777 or visit our website to leave us a message.

Fairtrade Awareness on International Coffee Day 2020.

Bookmarked for the 1st October every year, International Coffee Day celebrates the world’s love of coffee. Over 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed every single day across our planet, so it’s only right that such popularity is recognised. The following article from Coinadrink Limited will explore not only the history of this special event, but also the coffee farming traditions typically surrounding this celebration.

International Coffee Day: A Background.

To understand more about International Coffee Day (ICO), it’s firstly important to recognise the organisation behind it: The International Coffee Organisation.

The International Coffee Organisation was founded in London in 1963. It was formed as a way to highlight the economic importance of coffee and how so many people’s livelihoods rely on it.

There are 49 member states of the ICO including Brazil, India and Thailand and these states represent 99% of world coffee production and 67% of world consumption. The ICO’s headquarters is located at 222 Gray’s Inn Road in London. Its current executive director is the Brazilian José Sette.

We have covered the history of coffee before, with this famous beverage believed to have originated courtesy of a heard of goats in Ethiopia around 600 years ago. Since then coffee has travelled around the world at huge pace. International Coffee Day was recorded as an official event in 2014.

International Coffee Day 2020: #CoffeePledge.

This year, International Coffee Day is highlighting the potentially devastating impact coffee culture is having on coffee farmers. And for once, this has little to do with the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The sad reality is that coffee farmers have been poorly paid for a long time now. Coffee continues to be imported on a huge scale to numerous countries across the world. 95 million cups of coffee are consumed every day in the UK alone, with 80% of Brits thought to visit a coffee shop once a week. But whilst this has led prices in the hospitality to shoot up, coffee farmers are not experiencing the benefits of this high demand.

International Coffee Day has always fought this injustice. And for 2020, they are taking this fight further. They are asking everyone, including the Government, those in the hospitality industry and even regular coffee drinkers, to recognise the battle with the #CoffeePledge hashtag. This is to raise awareness of a growing problem and to support a living income for coffee farmers.

Of course, there will be other ways people will mark this event. Recent traditions typically include coffee shops lowering their prices for this solitary day.

Coinadrink’s support of Fairtrade.

A lot of this support will come through highlighting the effectiveness of the Fairtrade organisation. Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices (which must never fall lower than the market price), Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.

Coinadrink is a proud supporter of the Fairtrade organisation. We believe in giving producers a fair deal and we promise to support ethical production and sustainable development. We are proud to say that many of the products in our vending machines are Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade certified, which means we are helping to protect both farmers and their farms.

How are you celebrating International Coffee Day?

With how popular coffee is, International Coffee Day may simply be celebrated by doing what you do every day! Why not get involved in the comments or on social media and tell us if you’re doing anything special?
